Cloud rats usually give birth to one infant so we were shocked, a year ago, when our two little arrivals made an appearance. Unfortunately, their mum struggled to rear them and did not have enough milk for the pair. I therefore had to step in and feed them every couple of hours throughout the day and night.
I am on ‘cloud 9’ that all the hard work paid off and, now that they are one, Rain and Storm are fully grown and eat a diet of leafy greens, vegetables, browse and the occasional fruity treat.
Northern Luzon slender-tailed cloud rats are one of the world’s largest species of rat measuring 40cm in length (not including their long tail).
Our little family of cloud rats don’t join us for our interactive animal education sessions as they are much too shy but we absolutely adore them!
